Theodora Cleave parcel just arrived...

Wasn't I the lucky one to be in the shop when this little parcel arrived?  I love opening the parcels from Theodora Cleave!!  It's like Christmas all over again.  They are just yummy!

Quilt-as-you-go Class with Libby Kaye

  
This stunning quilt will be made over two classes with tutor, Libby Kaye.  The first class will be spent learning how to make the blocks and in the second class you will be shown how to put it all together.  This structure means that you will be able to have all the blocks ready in time for the "putting-it-together" part.

First class:  Thurs, 8th March :
6pm -9pm

Second class: Tues, Thurs, 12 April  :
6pm - 9pm

Cost : $28.00 per session thus $56.00 in total, including the pattern.

You would have seen my quilt-in-progress on a previous blog post and here are pictures of some of the other quilts coming together during our second class.  Aren't they just gorgeous?  Such totally different looks depending on the fabric chosen.  Using a jelly roll gives a lovely scrappy quilt while chosing five fabrics and cutting your own strips results in a really strong geometrical look.  Love them both - and what a great boy quilt the geometrical one makes!

Make Crazy Crumb quilts with Kay

 
Back by popular demand!!  We're doing another Crazy Crumb class.  Do you have bags of scraps at home?  Can't bear to throw those small pieces and strips out?  Me neither - that's why I make Crazy Crumb quilts!

This is fun, easy and costs next to nothing as you're using up your scraps!  You're not using your stash but your scraps - all those small pieces you've kept to do something with one day!

It's fun, easy and there are very few rules.  Join me for a few laughs and discover the quickest, easiest way you'll probably ever piece quilt blocks!

A pin cushion for home

Margaret needed a new pin cushion for home and this pattern by Nikki Tervo really appealed.  It can be made with or without the stitchery and looks wonderful either way.

Margaret loves her stitchery so no prizes for guessing which version she chose! :-)  And doesn't it look fabulous?

The pattern is available in the shop and our shop sample made by Sharon (without the stitchery) is in the shop for you to see.

 

 

 

 

 

How hard is this decision??

Put two patchworkers with completely different colour styles together and ask them to chose a colour scheme for their new on-line shop!!  It's bound to get interesting! :-)))  Four hours later, we were cross-eyed from looking at designs on the web but had finally made the tough decision!  Phew!!

What's that I hear you ask?  What decision?  Are you putting the shop on-line??   We certainly are! :-))  It's been on the cards for a while but life became a little complicated last year so it didn't happen.  But the software has been ordered, the website space booked, the design chosen (!!) and we're hoping to get it up and running by the end of February.

We hope you'll like our new site - we're taking the opportunity to update our colour scheme too and hope it will all look a little fresher.  Nothing like a good spring-clean and change of decor, is there? :-)

The blog will continue as always but we will migrate some of the pages in the left margin showing fabrics over to the shop.

Epsilon Stars everywhere! :-))

Some of these blocks and partial blocks were made during the Westalee Epsilon Star  Setter class this morning.  Most made the 12" block but Denise did the 3" miniature block on the bottom right of the photo.  The Harlequin Star block on the bottom left of the photo is one of the many variations of the Star block one can make with the Epsilon Star Setter tool.

Denise has set the challenge - I'm going to have to make a 3" Harlequin star block!  It's going to be interesting.... :-)))

Here is a close-up of the two miniature blocks that have still to be put together.  Love it!!  They're SO cute.

Our next Epsilon Star class is on 29th February.

Judi loves 'playing' with fabric and colour

I love it when Judi brings in projects to show us.  It's always something a bit different and wonderful.  What's not to love about the simplicity of this design where vibrance of the colours take centre stage?

 

 

 

 

This lovely bush scene used fabric painting along with patchwork techniques to produce a great result.  And the 'wood' borders are just perfect with the textured look.

 

 

 

 

 

 

And a wonderful Christmas quilt with a further detail shown below.  This one made me smile - it's too cute and I love the grey-green colour of the sashings.

Our juniors in action....

Our juniors are loving their Stack n Whack class and we're so impressed with their colour choices and absolute concentration as they build their blocks.

This is Chloe in the front and Gabby to the rear, both totally absorbed in their sewing.

 

 

 

  

 

 

 

 

And here's Nicole doing her thing too.  I reckon Nicole sews straighter seams than I do!  I was very impressed.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Chloe and Gabby with their gorgeous quilt tops.  They both chose fabric from the Rosalie Quinlan Folk Heart range which we have in stock.  Chloe chose more blue while Gabby chose a little more pink so they look very different.  The girls produced these quilt tops in the 3 hour class - how awesome is that!!

Juniors' Ready, Set, Sew Club

A Club of their own!! Calling all juniors from the ages of 7 - 14 years.

This is the perfect place to start if you want your children to learn to sew under the capable instruction of Sharon Keeble. The club meets every 2nd month to tackle one of Paula Storm's  (We stock a number of her patterns and they're great!) projects designed especially for kids.

These cute projects will teach the basics: from cutting fabric, stitching, applique and using your sewing machine.

We provide the venue, the cordial (tea/coffee for adults), the cake, the pattern and the tutor.  You provide the children, the sewing machine and the items on the requirements lists and we all get together for a bit of fun and creativity!  Brilliant!!  Mums/Nans welcome to assist and to cheer the youngsters on.

NOTE:  Juniors will not use a rotary cutter during the class.  We will do any rotary cutting necessary or else Mum/Nan is more than welcome to come along and assist. :-)

The projects Include: A Charm Square Kid's Lap Quilt (or Dolly Quilt), Night Owl Canvas Wall-hanging, Personalised Cushion, Needle Book and a bracelet with removable pincushion - three of which are shown in the picture.  Cute as!!

Time: All classes are run on Saturday mornings from 9.30am - 12.30pm

Dates:  10th March, 12th May, 28 July, 8th September, 3rd November

Cost:  $15.00 per child per class.

Please note that this is a club and you are signing up for the series of five classes.

Printable Fabric Sheets back in stock

Our printable fabric sheets are finally back in stock!  Apologies to anyone who has been wanting these but the wholesaler couldn't get them from the supplier so we were all a little stuck!

The sheets are A4 size and can be printed on your own inkjet printer at home.  We've had great results transferring our photos and text to fabric with this brand of printable fabric sheets.

 
The cotton packs come in either a 10 or a 5 sheet pack while the organza and silk packs come in packs of 5 A4 sheets.

I LOVE using these for memory quilts, labels and other small projects.
