Last year a number of us did the Westalee Sampler club which was a great way to learn all about using the Westalee rulers and tools. While some of us aren't anywhere near completing theirs, [like myself! It will be completed but life is a little busy at the moment... :-)))] others have completed or are very close to completing the quilt, as you may have seen in a recent post. And they are truly stunning.
One of the things that we all agree on, whether we have finished our quilt or not, is that the
journey has been worth it. Our skills and accuracy have improved immensely and we've all come to understand a great deal more about quilt design in the process. The classes contained students at a variety of levels to start with - from complete beginners to experienced patchworkers - and we all learned something along the way. There were days of frustration and days of joy but the one thing we all agree on is that the Westalee rulers are wonderful.
These photos were taken at the beginning of the second class and you can see that the students had already completed a number of different blocks - from a simple four patch to more complex (but equally easy once you know how) blocks - all based on squares and rectangles.
We will be running this course once again this year. The club will be run on the first week of every month on:
Wednesdays from 10am - 1pm or
Thursdays from 6 - 9pm,
starting in the first week in May and will run for 6 months, with an option to add on one or two extra lessons should the class feel they wish to.
The cost will be $22.50 per person per lesson and you are signing up for all six lessons in the club. The cost includes the patterns for the 113 blocks used in the Westalee Sampler Quilt and there will be a free pattern with each lesson, which incorporates one of the block patterns received that month. The cost of the rulers, tools and fabric are not included in the cost. This quilt is a brilliant stash buster and I would encourage anyone doing it to raid their stash first. :-))
