We had our inaugural Dear Jane weekend in November and what a weekend it was!! We loved it.

We are thrilled to launch two Dear Jane weekends this year!! Jane Stickle created an extraordinary sampler of 225 patterns using 5,602 pieces during the American Civil War. She finished her quilt in 1863 but it lives on again in the Baby Janes so many of us are stitching.
We warn you, Dear Jane will grab your heart, creativity and intellect. It is an amazing quilt and you WILL become addicted. I was planning a small project, maybe a cushion - but somehow I can see that my batiks have now become civil war prints and my Baby Jane will be created in all her glory. It may take the rest of my life, but it will be done. It's got me hooked!!
Amanda (see the photo of Amanda with her nearly completed Baby Jane) will teach the 5 techniques used in this quilt for new Baby Janers or for those of you who would like a complete refresher.
During the course of the weekend we will run a demonstration of the Dear Jane CD for those of you who enjoy the electronic media.
Included in the price is a yummy finger lunch on both days provided by Get Tossed on Dean Street, a morning and afternoon tea/coffee/cake on both days provided by the baking fairies of Avonleigh and I'm sure that a bottle or two of wine or champagne will probably magically appear on the lunch table as well.
Dates: 4th and 5th June (Saturday and Sunday) OR
19th and 20th November
Time: 10am - 4pm on both days
Cost: $135.00 per person for the Dear Jane lessons with Amanda.

Amanda runs a tutored Dear Jane Sit N Sew on the first Thursday of every month. If you have already attended our Dear Jane course, or have a reasonable amount of knowledge, feel free to book your place. Unfortunately this Sit N Sew is not suitable for someone who has not done Dear Jane previously. However, we are running a Dear Jane course in October if you wish to learn the techniques used in this magnificent quilt.

If you attended the Dear Jane classes with Amanda, you are very welcome to join our Dear Jane Sit N Sew evenings. Amanda will be there to answer any questions and assist as necessary but there will be no formal lessons on these evenings.
Come and catch up with everyone who is doing the Dear Jane and share the anguish and joy as we keep each other motivated! ;-)
Starts on Thursday, 4th February from 6.30pm - 9.30pm and is on the first Thursday of each month thereafter. Cost is $17.50 for the three hours and you will need to book and prepay for the following class as usual.

Noelene McGuren, who was the feature quilter at the Melbourne Craft Show this year, brought in her Dear Jane quilt to show us. Isn't it absolutely stunning? Noelene very kindly left the quilt with us to show our Dear Jane class. Noelene pieced every block except one, which was appliqued, and ALL the work on this quilt is done by hand. Every block is hand-quilted with a different pattern as well!
We are so lucky up here on the Border to have so many quilters producing magnificent work - and then sharing it with us all! Thank you, Noelene. Your quilt has been much admired, poured over and minutely examined. We are more inspired than ever to do our own quilts justice. Mmmm, perhaps that cushion cover may become a quilt after all........
